College preparation for our students begins on their first day as a freshman and continues throughout their four years at Holy Cross. We teach them pertinent study habits and organizational skills and educate them with a tried-and-true college preparatory curriculum.
Guidance counselors work closely with juniors and seniors to find college choices based on their talents and interests. We also provide them with:
- Personal one-on-one interaction with college and university representatives from across the country (including on-site interviews and admissions)
- Access to local college fairs
Junior year is a time to focus on future options and to prepare for college and/or career choices. Students complete the PSAT in October and results are discussed at length within individual meetings. Juniors also begin a comprehensive college search process which seeks to match each student with several possible colleges based on the individual student’s needs and preferences. Students are encouraged to take the SAT or ACT during the spring of their junior year. At the end of junior year, students are prepared to continue their search and visits to colleges throughout the summer.
Senior year at Holy Cross is a time to apply to colleges or prepare for other career choices. Preparation for the college process will continue to build upon what was covered in the student’s junior year. At the beginning of their senior year, the students will meet in groups and individually with their Guidance Counselor to discuss plans for the future. Services vary depending on the needs of the individual student; developing lists of colleges, advising future life goals, and ensuring a student meets graduation requirements are among topics discussed. Guidance Counselors will help facilitate the scholarship search and applications as well.
