PHYSICAL EDUCATION I

Required of: All Freshmen

A selection of team and individual sports are presented, intended to increase fitness and skill levels of all students. Basic skills are presented for various activities, such as in touch football, soccer, volleyball, badminton, aerobics, weight training, basketball, softball, lacrosse and track and field.

HEALTH AND SAFETY I

Course #915 Level: * Credit: 1/2
Required of: All Freshmen

This course covers four major health areas. The first, Freshman Foundations, is presented at the beginning of the freshman year to help students adjust and succeed in the academic and social environment of high school. The other units will include gateway drug education, nutrition and mental health.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION II
Course #924 Level: * Credit: 1/2
Required of: All Sophomores

This course is a continuation of the activities presented in Health and Phys. Ed. I. More emphasis placed on team concepts and lifetime skill activities, such as tennis, softball, ultimate frisbee, archery and lacrosse.

HEALTH AND SAFETY II

Required of: All Sophomores

This course includes career planning, CPR instruction and certification, substance abuse education and personal safety. Also included will be a variety of current health and safety topics affecting student life.

BUILD A BETTER BODY

Course #129 Spring
Open to: Juniors and Seniors

This is a course based on creating healthy routines and methods for weight training. Students will need to develop and adjust their own fitness program throughout the course. This includes athletes who are in season. They are expected to participate in each and every class. The instructor will help design the program and provide feedback on the correct training method. This will include safety, technique and optimal bodybuilding for their personal goals.

SPORTS FITNESS

Course #124 Spring
Open to: Juniors and Seniors

This course is designed for students who would like to continue their physical education experience. Students will have the opportunity to participate in some of their favorite team sports such as football, basketball, soccer and baseball. Students will also participate in tennis, badminton and archery when available. The Ross Fitness Center could at times be incorporated for various physical activities.


HEALTH/PE ASSISTANT

Course #125 Fall Level * Credit: 1/2
Course #126 Spring
Open to: Juniors and Seniors
Prerequisite: Signature of the Department Chairperson

This course will be offered to those students who may be interested in pursuing a career in Health and Physical Education or related fields.The student should possess leadership skills and a mastery of physical skills with the ability to demonstrate the proper methods and techniques of the physical activities presented. The student will be assigned to one of the Health/PE instructors as an assistant.


YOGA

Course #935 Fall Level * Credit: 1/2
Course #936 Spring
Open to: Junior and Senior Students

This course is designed for students who would like to continue the physical education of their bodies in a lifetime based activity. Students would be expected to change and participate in each class to the best of their abilities. This includes athletes who are in season. This would be a partcipation/performance graded class. The instructor will go through the basic techniques of yago and will build on the movements as the class progresses. A personal yoga mat will be required for participation.
