Holy Cross Partners with St. Mary's Hospital for Jane Doe No More

For the second year in a row, Holy Cross High School joined forces with St. Mary's Hospital to present the Jane Doe No More Program. This self-defense program is designed to give women and girls a fighting chance in the face of attack. The program consisted of an academic component, physical training and skills practice. The women learned awareness tips, escape strategies and kick, strike and blow techniques designed to disable assailants and enable escape. (Read More)

Holy Cross Raises $28,000 Through Give Local Campaign

 

Thanks to the generosity of alumni, parents, friends, faculty and students, almost $14,000 was raised in the 36 hour Give Local – Greater Waterbury and Litchfield Hills campaign. These dollars will be matched by an anonymous donor, giving Holy Cross High School $28,000 in total. The Connecticut Community Foundation may also stretch this amount further with additional bonus funds. In summary, this was a wonderful achievement for the Holy Cross community. (Read More)

Nick Quicquaro '18 Gives Back Through His Eagle Service Project

 

Nicholas Quicquaro '18 is a soon-to-be Eagle Scout with Troop 52 in Oakville. Like all Boy Scouts, he needed to do a service project to achieve this prestigious rank. He decided to give the Holy Cross courtyard a complete facelift. He trimmed trees, painted the statue of Saint Joseph, planted perennials and annuals, mulched, painted the flower bed borders and mowed the lawn. He even placed a new wooden bench in it. This project required many hours of service and a proved demonstration in leadership. (Read More)
 

Students, Faculty & Alumni Shine at Arts on Oronoke

Crusader art work was shared with the Holy Cross community at the annual Arts on Oronoke art show. Students, faculty and alumni submitted a wide array of paintings, drawings and sculptures.


This event is a labor of love for art teachers, Michael Marseglia and Rosanne Shea and their students. Student art work is created throughout the year. "Every single art course is represented from Intro to AP," said Mrs. Shea. "It is so wonderful to see a parent's reaction to their child's work." (Read More)

Connecting with a 200 Year Old Era

 

English teacher, Kathryn Dadio wanted to challenge her English 10 Honors class with Enrichment Projects while reading through Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. The story's time period, the Regency Era, lent itself to some group work and exploration.


Ms. Dadio wanted to stretch her students' way of thinking. "I was thinking, what can I do?" she said. "Teenagers, 200 years later, are disconnected from Jane Austen's time period." (Read More)
