An Update from the Search Committee
posted: October 16, 2018
Our school year is well underway and we are grateful to Mr. Paul Geise for the leadership he is providing as our Interim President. Likewise, we extend our thanks to Mr. Amadeo Rinaldi who served our community so well as we encountered the tragic illness and death of Peggy Leger. We are grateful to all of you for your support of our Holy Cross Community at a very difficult time last spring.
One of Mr. Geise’s first tasks has been carrying out the mandates related to a generous gift from the Brothers of Holy Cross. Thus far, a number of needed repairs have been attended to in the building and on the property.Several studies are currently underway to plan for the future of Holy Cross High School. With funding provided by the Brothers’ gift, we have purchased computers for our faculty members and we will be undertaking a Gallup survey of our students to study their perceptions of their Holy Cross experience.Mr. Jeff Fryer, a current HC Board member, and Brother George Schmitz, a staff member at Notre Dame West Haven and the Brothers’ representative, serve as the Brothers of Holy Cross Gift Oversight Committee.
On behalf of the Board of Directors and the President Search Committee, we would like to take this opportunity to update you on the search process. You will find a New President Search page on our school website where we have posted the Position Profile, the list of search committee members, and information about Carney, Sandoe & Associates (CS&A) the firm we have hired to assist us in developing a list of qualified candidates. We encourage you to visit the page if you have not done so already.
Mr. Ed Malaspina, a former Board Member, has been serving as the chair of the Search Committee since February when it met to begin the process to select an Interim President. He continued in that role until two weeks ago. Ed had to step down due to personal work commitments that would not allow him to attend to the work of the committee as he saw fit.Mr. Patrick Clifford, a current board member, and Brother George Schmitz have agreed to carry on Ed’s work as co-chairs of the committee. We thank Ed for the time and effort that he devoted to keeping the work of the Search Committee flowing smoothly. The Presidential search got under way over the summer months, and the Search Committee has met several times since the end of the summer to review resumes of prospective candidates from around the country. Several have been interviewed by the committee via Skype with recommendations sent to the Board of Directors. The goal of the Search Committee is to continue to review qualified candidates as expediently as possible and present finalists to the Board of Directors for review at their regularly scheduled meeting. It is the responsibility of the Board to make recommendations to the Brothers of Holy Cross who make the official appointment of the President. The new President of Holy Cross will take office on July 1, 2019.

Once engaged, the firm will meet with the existing faculty and the current Holy Cross President, prior to reviewing suitable candidates.
The search for Holy Cross's new President will take approximately a year and a half. The anticipated starting date for the next President will be in July of 2019.
Amadeo Rinaldi, Holy Cross's current interim President, will leave his position in June 2018. There will be a gap between his departure and the starting date of the next President. The Brothers of Holy Cross and the Board of Directors are looking for a solution independent of this search.
As the process continues, updates will be shared with our Crusader community. This presidential search represents an exciting chapter in the future of Holy Cross High School. As the search moves forward, we will continue to share information with our Holy Cross family - administration, faculty, staff, donors, students, families, alumni and friends.
