This is an intense full year course which will educate students on various topics throughout the course of history.Major events and trends will be covered with an emphasis on historical themes and patterns, with a focus on how historical events connect to the modern world.This course is also geared towards teaching vital study and note-taking skills. All accepted students will be responsible for extensive reading and the ability to understand intricate details.

This is a full year course which will focus on the development of World History and how it connects to our modern world.This course includes an overview of the foundations, belief systems, commerce, and exploration of civilizations all around the world by illuminating important themes.Students will uncover patterns of behavior, identify historical trends, and explore historical movements and concepts. This course is also geared towards teaching vital study and note-taking skills.

This is an intense full year course designed to be a continuation of World History 1.This course intensely examines the evolution of the social, political, economic, cultural, religious, and intellectual history of the world and how those aspects interacted with people of all socio-economic levels and cultural classes.Students will be responsible for all of the skills taught in World History 1, and they will learn the skills necessary to analyze historical documents, themes, and ideas, while reinforcing positive study, research, and classroom-centered habits.

This full year course is a continuation of World History I. This course examines the evolution of the social, political, economic, cultural, religious, and intellectual history of the world and how those aspects interacted with people of all socio-economic levels and social classes. Students will be responsible for all of the skills taught in World History I. These skills will be reinforced, and new skills will be introduced in order to foster positive study, research, and classroom-centered habits.

United States History Honors is an intensive study of the course of American History. It traces the development and progress of the American nation and the American people. Emphasis is placed upon the thoughts, ideals and events which have brought America into the 20th century and have created the world we live in today. Much of the work will include extensive writing, research and presentation of student work and ideas.

AP WORLD HISTORY

Prerequisite: 94% in World History I Honors, 90% average in World History II Honors and/or 90% average in US History Honors

AP World History will survey world history from 1200 A.D. to the present. This course will emulate a freshman-level college course. Emphasis is placed on critical thinking skills, essay writing, interpretation of original documents and historiography. The course requires extensive reading, frequent practice in writing, historical analysis and numerous class discussions/debates/seminars.

AP U.S. HISTORY

Prerequisite: 90% average in World History II Honors and/or 90% average in U.S. History Honors

This Advanced Placement course provides an intensive analysis of U.S. History from the Age of Exploration to the present. Extensive reading and writing will be involved, as well as the process of historical analysis. The syllabus of the College Board AP program will be followed, preparing the students for the AP Exam in May. Limited enrollment.

AP EUROPEAN HISTORY

AP European History is a challenging course designed to be the equivalent of a freshman college course. The course will survey European history from the Renaissance to the present. Emphasis is placed on critical thinking skills, essay writing, interpretation of original documents and historiography. The course requires extensive reading, frequent practice in writing, historical analysis and numerous class discussions/debates/seminars.

PRACTICAL LAW

This course teaches young people about law that is practical and relevant to their lives by providing information and problem-solving opportunities relative to our legal system.Students develop both knowledge of the law and skills necessary for survival in our law based society.Students will be challenged to become active, engaged citizens equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to successfully participate and create change in their communities.The course entails an overview of the history of law, the role of legislatures, the criminal and civil justice systems, as well as individual rights and liberties.Students will engage in active learning experiences such as mock trials, role play, case studies, simulations and small group exercises.Exploration of legal careers will also be a theme throughout the course.

INTRODUCTION TO CRIMINAL JUSTICE

Prerequisite: Recommendation of U.S. History teacher

This course will provide an overview of the Criminal Justice System with a study of the agencies and processes involved, including the legislature, the courts, and corrections. The roles of policing agencies in the criminal justice system will be examined, emphasizing the 4th, 5th, & 6th amendment considerations during police investigations,arrest and pre-trial procedures. Additionally, the course will examine causes and reactions to criminal behavior. Students will examine why crime is committed and what society does in response to criminal commission. The course will look closely into the role of science in the criminal justice system and how physical and social science has changed the way in which court cases are handled.

AP Psychology is an intensive course designed to introduce students to the scientific study of the behavior and mental processes of human beings and animals. Students will explore the psychological facts, history and principals associated with each of the major subfields of psychology. Extensive reading and writing will be involved, as well as emphasis being placed on critical thinking skills. The syllabus of the College Board AP Psychology program will be followed, in preparation for the AP exam in May.

PSYCHOLOGY HONORS

This course is a comprehensive survey of psychology, concentrating on the theories of Freud, Skinner, Jung, Maslow, Erickson and other major theorists. The areas of study will include Developmental, Theories of Personality, Abnormal, Clinical and Experimental Psychology. Course work will emphasize scientific readings, independent study projects and analytical writings on observations and self. Limited enrollment.

PSYCHOLOGY

This course examines both the healthy and the abnormal personality. Emphasis is placed on the theories of Freud, Skinner and Maslow. Topics include child development, adolescence, peer relations, defensive behavior and abnormalities. In-depth study of the self underlines the course, with an extensive presentation of psychological vocabulary.
