Crusaders Pink Out for Cancer Awareness

October is Pink Out month! Crusade for a Cure, a student group that raises awareness and funds for cancer research, has planned many initiatives in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month. "I strongly believe that cancer awareness should be well known," said Jenny Lin '19, a Crusade for a Cure member. "My grandfather passed away from cancer so I am a strong believer in research and doing all that we can to support it."

"It is awesome that our students take this cause so seriously," said Director of Guidance, Catherine Xeller who serves as a co-faculty advisor with teacher, Delores Villano. "We are crusading for a cure for all cancers. Our kids are very excited for all of the events we have planned."

Over the month of October, our Crusaders are planning the following events:

  • On October 14th, students will participate in the Making Strides walk, sponsored by the American Cancer Society. The Crusaders have participated in this event in previous years. This year, it will be held at the White Memorial Conservation Center in Litchfield. All are asked to be there at 12:30pm. The walk will start at 1:00pm. • The Pink-Out Volleyball Game against Wilby High School will be held on October 19th. JV and Varsity games start at 3:30pm and 4:45pm, respectively. All proceeds will go to Crusade for a Cure.
  • Two Pink-Out dress down days are scheduled. The first will be held on October 19th. Students can pay $5.00 to dress in pink and participate. However, students can dress down for free if they wear this year's Crusade for a Cure shirt, which can be purchased in the Spirit Store for $15.00. These shirts can be purchased anytime in the morning between 7:15-7:50am and can be worn at any Crusade for a Cure event. The second Pink-Out dress down day will be on October 26th. Cost for all students is $2.00. This will be the kick-off to the Pink-Out football game. Proceeds for the dress down days will go to Saint Mary's Foundation and Crusade for a Cure.
  • The Pink-Out Varsity Football Game against Wilby High School will be held on October 27th.
