Congratulations to Fran Phelan '18 who will play Division I Baseball this fall at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain where he will study Athletic Training.
Fran is an outstanding person, a well-rounded student athlete, a great teammate, and a hardworking, dedicated, coach-able baseball player. "He has all the qualities our program looks for," said Mike Phelan '89, Boys' Varsity Baseball Coach. "I am proud of all that he has accomplished and excited for his future."
"My teammates are very supportive of each other," said Fran, a pitcher and middle-in field. "During my freshmen year, the team was made up mostly of juniors and seniors. Throughout the season, they were great. I got along well with all of them."
As a junior, Fran led the Crusaders to a State & NVL Championship with an 11-0 record on the mound and hit .409. He was named ALL State and all NVL as a pitcher as well being selected to represent CT in the Junior All Star Game vs. Mass. In his three years at Holy Cross, he accumulated 22 wins on the mound, highlighted by an 11-0 record made last year.
Last year was especially special for Fran and his team. They took home their first Class S State Championship. "That was the best feeling," he said. "We worked really hard for that."
Academically, Fran is a great student with a full course load. Currently, he is taking Anatomy, Statistics, Personal Finance, English. Physics and Religions of the World. "He was the ideal student," said math teacher, Karen Brough '84. "He was very polite, conscientious and high performing. He won the highest average award in Algebra 2."
Fran plans to play on the Crusader Boys' Varsity Baseball team this upcoming spring.
