Holy Cross Student Theatre Announces Cast for Spring Musical, West Side Story

The Holy Cross Student Theatre (HCST) is proud to announce the musical classic, West Side Story, as its spring production for the 2017-2018 school year. This iconic piece of theater features a book by Arthur Laurents, score by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. Performances run at Holy Cross High School (HCHS) in Waterbury on May 4th and 5th at 7:00pm and May 6th at 2:00pm. Tickets are $12.00 and can be purchased at the door or by calling HCHS at 203.757.9248. Seniors will be admitted free for the Sunday, May 6th matinee only. The production is under the direction of Paul Whealon with musical direction by Gabrielle Brazuaskas and choreography by Todd Santa Maria. Lori Conetta is the Assistant Director.

In West Side Story, Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is transported to modern-day New York City as two young, idealistic lovers, Tony and Maria (Michael Perkins '18 & Christina Finkenzeller '18), find themselves caught between warring street gangs, the "American" Jets and the Puerto Rican Sharks. Their struggle to survive in a world of hate, violence and prejudice is one of the most innovative, heart-wrenching and relevant musical dramas of our time.

As an added bonus, the school's annual Arts On Oronoke exhibit, featuring the art work of Holy Cross students and alumni, will be held during the May 6th performance from 3:00pm-5:00pm at the school in the Alix Family Gallery. Refreshments will be served.
