Congratulations to Marcos Scarpa '17 from Naugatuck who signed a National Letter of Intent to be a Division I Diver for the University of Connecticut.
"Marcos is a school record holder," said Varsity Boys' Diving Coach, Michele Griffith. "He has six dives with a score of 300.19 and 11 dives with a score of 429.60 points."
Originally a swimmer and soccer player, Marcos discovered diving in the ninth grade. He found that he was a stronger diver than a swimmer. He gave up swimming and trained throughout his high school years. He placed third and second in the NVL in his sophomore and junior year, respectively.
In the summer going into his sophomore year, he trained at Southern CT State University. "I have been working with my off-season coach, Jesse Cyr from Wesleyan as well as Coach Griffith from Holy Cross," he said.
Marcos is also very passionate about the sciences. He took a number of science classes at Holy Cross including Anatomy & Physiology and Neuroscience. "I love learning about the structure of the human body," he said. "I am particularly interested in brain function."
Marcos plans to study medicine when he gets to college.
