The Holy Cross High School community gathered together for the First Friday Liturgy of the 2018-2019 school year led by special guest, Father Joseph Donnelly from Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Southbury, CT. Holy Cross celebrates a liturgy at the beginning of each month throughout the school year. It is an opportunity for students, faculty and staff to gather together as a community and celebrate this sacred Catholic ritual.
"It's great to start the new school year," said Fr. Donnelly. "We carry a belief and a consciousness of what is at the center of it all – our belief and love in God."
The first liturgy of the school year is always a special one because it is also the Commissioning Ceremony of the Peer Ministers. These senior students serve under the auspice of the Campus Ministry Program. They lead several community service initiatives including retreats, prayer services and student activities.
"We have a very diverse group of Peer Ministers this year," said Kyle Piatak, Director of Campus Ministry. "They represent different backgrounds and have a variety of interests. Also, they have already proven themselves to be excellent leaders. They don't wait for me to ask them to do things. They take the lead and run with it. I am very excited to see what this strong, dedicated group of students brings to Holy Cross this year."
The 2018-2019 Peer Ministers are: Galvin Brayton, Allysa Cayabyab, Carley DeFoe, Meghan Diorio, Nathaniel Donofrio, Julia Dzinski, McKenna Ellsworth, Miguel Esteves, Alexander Ford, Mary Gillette, Vincent Graziano, William Greene, D'Asia Hargrove, Annie Kinsella, James Lanese, Samuel Mason, Molly Montville, Kyle Moser, Morgan Murray, Sage Parker, Elise Pelletier, Camille Perron, Nicholas Pietrorazio, Jack Schiavone, Thomas Thorpe and Fiona Xhafi.
