Student Performers Honored with CAS High School Outstanding Arts Awards

Jonathan Barney '17 and Gillian Russo '17 were two of 297 top Connecticut seniors who were honored at the Connecticut Association of Schools (CAS) High School Outstanding Arts Awards Banquet. The CAS Outstanding Arts Awards Banquet annually recognizes two seniors in each member high school for their outstanding ability in the performing or visual arts. The students are selected by their school to receive this honor. The banquet, with over 1,400 in attendance, is sponsored by Jostens and Bearingstar Insurance. Jonathan and Gillian have been extremely active in the music and theatre departments during their four years at Holy Cross.

Jonathan, an accomplished piano player, has performed many classical and jazz pieces with the school's music department. He began playing at age six. Since then, he has become widely known in both his school and local community for his talent, professionalism and versatility.

Gillian has also become an invaluable asset to the school's theatre department. She was introduced to theatre in seventh grade. Her passion for it grew exponentially as a member of the Holy Cross Student Theatre (HCST). Over the past four years, she played a variety of roles ranging from the classic to the contemporary. Her favorite HCST productions include As You Like It and The Sound of Music. She plans to major in Journalism and minor in Theatre at Fordham University in the fall.

The Connecticut Association of Schools serves Connecticut's K-12 public and parochial schools in all areas of inter-school activity.CAS has emerged as an informed leader in Connecticut's educational system, providing services to Connecticut's schools in areas ranging from academics to athletics.The association represents over 1,100 schools in the state. The Connecticut Association of Schools is a non-profit organization located in Cheshire, Connecticut.
