The National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced approximately 16,000 semifinalists in the 63rd Annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Wen Ting Zheng '18 was among the students announced for this program. The semifinalists can continue in this competition for 7500 National Merit Scholarships, worth more than $32 million. These will be offered next spring.
"I was so excited when I heard," said Wen Ting. "I am honored that I had the opportunity to apply for this scholarship."
Wen Ting is an exceptional academic scholar and student-athlete. Currently, she takes AP Biology, AP Calculus, AP Psychology, AP English, an online AP Chemistry course and a college-level Environmental Science course. She is also active on the Cross Country and Tennis teams.
Wen Ting learned the importance of time management early on in her high school career to handle such a demanding course load and schedule. She credits her teachers and school community for helping her.
"My teachers have always made themselves available to me," she said. "They stay after class and help me if I have questions. Our school community is filled with people who support each other."
"We are so proud of Wen Ting and her accomplishments," said Catherine Xeller, Director of Guidance. "We wish her the best of luck in the competition."
