A colorful parade of paintings, sketches, sculpture and more breathed life into the Alix Family Gallery in the annual Arts on Oronoke show. This exhibition showcased the creative works of our students, faculty and alumni.

“We have been doing this show for almost a decade,” said Rosanne Shea, Art Department Chair. “The administration thought it would be a great way to celebrate the creativity of our Crusader family.”

Students from the Painting, Advanced Drawing, Drawing & Design and Independent Art submitted works including Bethany Gonzalez ’23, who will participate in an intensive art program in Chicago this summer.

“I was able to hone my skills when I came to Holy Cross,” said Bethany. “I have learned a lot about two point perspective, drawing proportionally and composition. As long as I am doing art, I am happy.”

The Art Department builds skills with a strong foundation. Teachers start with a foundation in realism. In advanced courses, they expand on that with self-expressive and abstract work. They start with a base and empower students to open their eyes to things they have never seen or thought before.

“We encourage them to pull from their creative well,” said Mrs. Shea.
